I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my debut novel, Wedding Dashers, released Jan 28th and I am officially a published author (!!!). It feels like just yesterday I was sitting on the floor in my pajamas, writing about two stranded wedding guests on their way to Belfast with no clue whether this book would get an agent or a publishing deal, only that I was having so much fun.
For so long Jack and Ada have belonged only to me and the handful of trusted readers who read early versions, but now, like baby birds who finally have to leave the nest, they no longer belong to me.
And while that’s always been the goal, that one day they would belong to readers, it’s still a funny feeling to watch characters that lived in my head and only my head for so long, whose journey has become so intertwined with my own, now go out into the world without me to shepard them. I don’t have kids but I imagine this must be what it’s like to drop your kid off at college. It’s overwhelming and daunting and a little bit scary, but also nothing short of surreal to watch my brain children go out into the world and see readers connect with them.
If you’ve read, supported, preordered, picked up a copy from the bookstore, told a friend, requested from the library or shared the book, thank you. Thank you so much for helping make this lifelong dream of mine a reality and please hit me up for that kidney I still owe you!
Events:
On Tuesday I had the absolute pleasure of being in conversation with fellow debut author Amy Buchanan (author of Let’s Call a Truce) for my release at Third Place Books. It was an incredible night and I’m so grateful to everyone who showed up (especially to those who laughed at my jokes!!)
Last night I was in conversation with Erin Connor, Jessica James, Amy Buchanan and Jo Segura at Page 2 Books where we yapped about all things tropes, debuting, and Henry Cavill. It was a great time. You had to be there.
My third and final event is tomorrow, Saturday Feb 1, where I’ll be in conversation with Erin Connor (author of Unromace) at Invitation Books in Gig Harbor, Wa at 6:30. If you’re in the south Seattle area we’d love to see you there!
Thank you so much to everyone who has come out this week! It’s been incredible to connect with readers and I’m so so grateful for all the support, but I am also deff ready to disappear into my revision cave (I’m on deadline!!ahhh!!) and probs take a nap. Or two.
